Kayak’s latest travel trends for Canada identify several destinations that should be noticeably more affordable to fly to in 2026. The travel site found overall Canadian flight interest is up six per cent compared with 2025, with marked opportunities for value in Europe and Asia.
Europe leads in interest, with a 24 per cent rise in regional searches, while Asia shows the biggest airfare improvement, with an average 10 per cent drop in economy fares from Canada. Kayak based its findings on searches made between April and September 2025 for travel in 2026, compared with the same period in 2024 for 2025 travel.

Europe: rising interest in next-wave cities

Seven of Canada’s top trending destinations for 2026 are in Europe. Kayak highlights Berlin and Milan as two cities outpacing others, a sign of shifting demand toward design-focused, culture-rich itineraries that move beyond the traditional Paris and London circuit. Increased connectivity is part of the story, with new Toronto to Berlin routes added in 2025 helping drive interest.

But 2026's biggest story as of now isn’t Paris or London, it's the rise of next-wave European cities that offer culture, strong value and expanding flight connectivity.

For travellers prioritising value, these emerging European options may offer similar cultural returns at lower cost. The combination of renewed route options and growing regional demand means more choice and competitive pricing on many routes.

Asia: the biggest fare drops

Kayak reports Asia as the region with the largest declines in airfare from Canada for 2026, citing an average 10 per cent reduction. The report points to popular markets such as Thailand and China as places where Canadians could see meaningful savings on long-haul flights.

Across all flight searches, these were the destinations where airfare dropped the most, making them smart picks for value-driven travellers.

Kayak
Lower fares to Asia may open the door for longer itineraries without a dramatic increase in travel budgets. Travellers who have been waiting for better pricing to explore beaches, food scenes and cultural hubs in Asia may find 2026 a relatively favourable year to book.

Domestic travel: steady prices, rising interest

Interest in domestic flights from Canada climbed 12 per cent for 2026 compared with 2025, while average prices for travel within Canada remained largely flat. Kayak notes that keeping travel local can be a cost-efficient option when international fares are uncertain.

According to Kayak’s averages, the most affordable round-trip economy fare within Canada for 2026 is to Edmonton, at about $357. For travellers weighing trade-offs between time and cost, short domestic routes continue to offer predictable pricing.

Most affordable international destinations in 2026

Kayak also published the cheapest international round-trip fares from Canada for 2026. These markets may suit travellers on tighter budgets or those looking to maximise value on shorter getaways.
  • George Town, Cayman Islands — average round-trip economy $674
  • Nassau, Bahamas — average round-trip economy $721
  • Cancún, Mexico — average round-trip economy $724
Those figures represent average economy prices across searches during the April to September 2025 window for travel in 2026. Prices will vary by departure city, travel dates and how far in advance you book.

How Kayak compiled the data

The findings are based on flight search activity on Kayak between April 1 and September 30, 2025 for travel from January 1 to December 31, 2026. These results were compared with the same search period in 2024 for travel in 2025. Reported percentages reflect changes in search interest and average economy fares from Canada.
For Canadians planning travel in 2026, the report highlights clear opportunities: expanded connectivity to mid-tier European cities, falling airfares to parts of Asia, and reliable, affordable domestic options. Monitor fares closely and compare departure airports to make the most of the trends identified by Kayak.
