Bombardier Inc. will invest $100 million to build a new 126,000 square foot manufacturing centre near Dorval, Quebec, to increase production capacity for its business aircraft. The facility, slated to open in 2027, is supported by a $35 million loan from Investissement Québec.
The company says the project is part of a long-term strategy to boost productivity amid rising demand for its jets, though it has not released detailed plans for how the new space will be used.

Why Bombardier is expanding

Bombardier manufactures Challenger models and completes larger Global jets in the Montreal region. The aerospace maker has reported increased orders and interest in its business aircraft, prompting the need for additional manufacturing capacity to speed assembly and final outfitting.

The project is part of the company’s long-term strategy to boost productivity as it responds to growing demand for its business aircraft.

Large orders have helped drive that demand, including a deal announced last year in which Bond Aviation Holdings, a fractional-ownership private jet company backed by KKR & Co., agreed to buy 50 aircraft in a transaction valued at US$1.7 billion, with an option for 70 more.

What the new centre will likely handle

Bombardier has not specified which stages of production will move into the new centre. In the Montreal area the company currently builds Challenger airframes and performs final assembly and interior work on Global models, so the extra space could be used for additional assembly lines, outfitting space or supply-chain operations.
  • Location: near existing Dorval facilities
  • Size: 126,000 square feet
  • Opening: scheduled for 2027
  • Investment: $100 million from Bombardier, $35 million loan from Investissement Québec
The new centre should help shorten lead times for deliveries and provide flexibility to handle larger or more complex orders, but Bombardier has not released employment forecasts or specific production targets for the site.

Government backing and other industrial ties

Investissement Québec provided a $35 million loan to back the investment. The provincial support aligns with efforts to keep aerospace work in the region and to maintain Montreal's role as a manufacturing hub for business aviation.
Bombardier is also engaged in other partnerships that connect Canadian work to international programmes. The company and Sweden’s Saab AB already collaborate on the GlobalEye early warning aircraft. That platform is assembled in Canada on a Global 6500 airframe before being shipped to Sweden for radar and sensor integration.
Separately, Bombardier and Saab have discussed the possibility of producing Gripen fighter jets in Canada, though no government agreement is in place and those talks remain at a conceptual stage.

What to watch next

Watch for more details from Bombardier on how the new centre will be used and whether the company will announce staffing plans or specific production lines. Additional clarity on the timeline and contractual commitments with buyers will indicate how quickly the new space will translate into increased deliveries.
The project underscores continued investment in the Montreal aerospace cluster and reflects a broader push to expand manufacturing capacity as demand for business aircraft rebounds globally.
